How to Learn to Square Dance
and Become a Rainbeau!

IF YOU ARE A CURRENT SQUARE DANCER and would like to join the Rainbeaus, please attend one of our dances on Tuesday (Social Square Dance[SSD] and Plus) or Thursday (Advanced and Challenge 1). The Rainbeaus also offer Open Houses to get to know the Rainbeaus and learn about the opportunities to dance with us. The Rainbeaus also offer occasional outdoor and masked dance opportunities. Please bring proof of vaccination the first time you attend (have your mask handy just in case!).  Please ‘Contact Us!’ for information! Check the Calendar to confirm all dance dates.

IF YOU ARE BRAND NEW TO SQUARE DANCING, you'll start by learning introductory square dance calls. An opportunity to visit the club and experience square dancing is our Open House dance. The next Open House occurs on Tuesday, September 10, 2024; stay tuned for upcoming Open House announcements! The Open House is a free event at the Washington Street Community Center providing an introduction to square dancing, a way to meet the Rainbeaus, and learn about our introductory and other dance opportunities.

Attending Open House and other welcome events is fun even if you have no interest in joining as an ongoing dancer. Attending Open House requires no commitment. Just join us to re-live those memories of middle school gym!

If you would like to observe square dancing prior to the Open House, please contact our Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for information to visit one of our weekly dances or to submit your interest in our forthcoming introductory dance opportunities!

If you are wondering if you'll "fit in," please feel at ease. The Rainbeaus are a very diverse group. Members represent a wide range of ages, gender identities, LGBTQ+ and straight alike. No partner is required; you will dance with many different partners during your training.

Physically speaking, a dancer should be able to easily walk at a brisk pace for 3 minutes.  You may be surprised at how much aerobic exercise one can get from square dancing.  It's a great way to rack up those steps on your pedometer or fitness tracker!
